Pig Count Down
Looking for new pigs at Detour Ranch. It looks like our Berkshire sow Cathy will have a litter of pigs this weekend 2/20. Everyone here is excited to see what she produces because we all like her the best of all our pigs. She is very mild mannered and fun to be around. We put her in one of our pens a few weeks ago so she would be able to give birth without the other animals bothering her and she has rooted up the hole pen. I was going to plow it and plant grass in it this spring and she saved me the trouble of plowing. This litter of pigs will be crosses of Berkshire and Duroc. We plan to get a full blood Berkshire boar so the next litter will be full blood Berkshires. We currently have 7 new kid goats and expecting a bunch more this spring. Our Great Pyrenees dogs gave us 9 pups in November so we now have puppies for sale. You can go to our website to see what happens next. Detour Ranch

Bucket Truck Checklist
The operator of the bucket truck should conduct a safety check of the bucket truck to determine hazards, identify damage and leaks.
Daily Check shall include but is not limited to a visual inspection of the bucket truck exterior, including;
· Oil and hydraulic leaks.
· Weld integrity, such as cracks and rust.
· Lighting (beam, directional and safety).
· All required decals and stickers on or around the articulating boom.
· They must be in place, legible and understandable.
· Broken, damaged, loose or missing parts.
· Tire bulges, cuts and pressure.
· Worksite Inspection.
· Do not to park on uneven ground.
· Keep an eye out for holes, bumps, and debris, drop-offs.
· Do not operate the boom if there is a threat of an electrical storm or wind gusts exceed 30 mph.
· Set emergency brake.
· Position wheel chocks.
· Look out for overhead obstructions.
Fall Hazards
· Always keep feet on the floor of bucket.
· Do not sit, stand, or climb on the edge of the basket.
· Do not place any item in the bucket for the purpose of increasing work height (ladders, step stools).
· Do not try to climb down from the bucket when it is raised.
· Make sure bucket floor is clear of debris.
· ALWAYS WEAR FALL PROTECTION!
Tip-Over Hazards
· Do not push or pull toward anything while raised in the bucket.
· Do not carry ladders, etc. in bucket.
· Do not exceed the 300 lb load capacity.
· Do not move the truck when bucket is raised.
· Do not operate in high winds.

Great Pyrenees For Sale
Great Pyrenees: If you are a rancher or a farmer with livestock; especially small animals like goats or sheep, than this is a name that you are probably familiar with. A Great Pyrenees dog is one of the best LGDs’ (livestock guardian dog) you can get. I can say this from experience, since my wife and I run a Boer goat ranch along with having Berkshire pigs and Rhode Island Red chickens. Before we started using Great Pyrenees, we had several goats disappear; some times body parts were found where something had eaten them, and our chickens were completely wiped out twice. We got our Great Pyrenees dogs and have not had anything disappear in 2 years; so I am a believer in how well they work.
Now our Great Pyrenees male and our ¾ Great Pyrenees, ¼ Anatolian Shepherd female have given us puppies. I have been working with the puppies to try and determine if they’re going to follow in their parents’ footsteps of keeping the predators away from the livestock. I have been surprised by how well they are responding. You usually find them out with the goat herd or wandering around the pens with the chickens and pigs. Berkshire Pigs
Berkshire Pigs: This is a name that people and restaurants have come to know, when they expect a high quality pork for flavor and color. This breed produces pork that has a much darker color and richer flavor than what you are able to buy in the store. The pork you find in your local store usually comes from some big factory farm (feed lot) where their main goal is to produce pigs for market as fast as possible, with little regard as to the actual quality of the meat. This includes giving them hormones or chemically added feed to be able to accomplish their goal. The Berkshire does grow a little slower than hybrids so they are not normally used for factory farms. However, some of the big factory farms do use a Berkshire to add some color and flavor back to their herds when they start producing poor meat.

Truck insurance: If you own a truck or a fleet of trucks this is a term that means someone else is getting a large portion of your hard earned money. To a large degree insurance company’s play a vital part in driving any vehicle but with commercial trucks it is even a bigger part because of the damage caused when a truck is involved and it gives the truck driver some comfort to know, if they are faced with a lawsuit happy individual (you now the kind that goes around looking for someone to sue so they can get a free ride in life) then someone has their back in the lawsuit. This is of course is assuming the insurance company is reputable and not one that just takes your money and leaves you in the cold when you need them most (like when you are in an accident). Unfortunately there are many insurance companies that do just take your money and then hide behind the fine print when you need them or want fight for you just leaves everything to you. I have dealt with this myself and it really bites when you have paid thousands out for the supposedly protection only to find out you have no one to help you with all legal stuff of an accident unless you spend even more money and hire an attorney.
