Jewelry Boxes

The Jewelry Box…. Anyone who sees that or hears it has any number of images come to mind. They could think of their mothers or grandmothers little box on the bureau, or they could think of the little silver box in the drawer, to as much as the armoire next to the bed. Jewelry boxes come in so many sizes and shapes, if you can think of it; you can probably find it, somewhere. A jewelry box for women, men or children, even specific jewelry boxes for necklaces, rings, bracelets, or watches.
Jewelry boxes have been around for centuries, originally being made out of antimonial lead or electroplated with copper and then finished with either gold or silver. Over time jewelry boxes have been made or finished with gold, silver, bronze or ivory. More commonly now they are usually made out of wood, but they are also made out of fabric, cardboard, paper, and even some out of glass.
The very old silver, gold, or ivory finished boxes are now antiques, passed down from generation to generation, usually worth more than what they were made to hold. There are some that have moldings or intricate carvings on them that are virtually priceless.
